School History
Located in southern Chesterfield County within the Matoaca District, Ettrick Elementary has been educating children since the 1920s. With 95,990 square feet and capacity for 750 students, the new building is located on the same 14.5-acre campus as the previous building and will open to students Aug. 23, 2021. Budgeted for $33.76 million, the school was completed on time and under budget. This is one of the school replacements approved by Chesterfield County voters through the 2013 school bond referendum.
Ettrick Elementary’s population is comprised of children from rural and suburban communities, representing diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The close proximity of Virginia State University to Ettrick Elementary provides resource people and services in the form of consultants, student teachers, student tutors and educational media.
Serving students in grades pre-kindergarten through five, our school is staffed with more than 75 persons. The regular classroom teaching staff is augmented by full-time professional staff in the areas of art, music, physical education, library, reading and math specialists, speech therapy, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, mild and moderate mental disabilities, and counseling. Full-time personnel in food services, custodial services and transportation provide support services. Additionally, there is an office manager, two school secretaries, instructional assistants, a clinic assistant, and two building administrators. Itinerant staff includes a school nurse, occupational and physical therapists, school social worker, school psychologists and educational diagnostician. Ettrick is one of four schools in Chesterfield County with a Communities in Schools Coordinator who coordinates volunteers and community services within our school.
